When you venture out from the McClellan RV Resort, visit the California State Railroad Museum, a place dedicated to celebrating state history. In the 1800s much of the West seemed like a separate country from the East. However the laying of tracks bound the two halves together in a striking way.

California State Railroad Museum

Opened in 1976, 225,000 + square feet of exhibit space, the California State Railroad Museum is a popular visitor destination, attracting more than 500,000 people every year. The museum uses compelling exhibits, docents, and restored locomotives to demonstrate the amazing history of rails in California and the West and also has fun events for the entire family!

All Aboard for Story Time!

Every Monday from 11:00 am – 11:30 am, the East Theater features stories and fun for kids where railroads help introduce and foster the love of reading. This is an interactive and fun program designed for imaginative young children ages two to five.

Board the Spookomotive Train Ride

In October, the Spookomotive train is fun for the whole family. The diesel-powered train is decorated for the season with cornstalks, scarecrows, skeletons, bats and spiders.

Each operating weekend the Spookomotive will have a special theme, and includes exciting on board entertainment and a tasty Halloween treat.

The Polar Express™

Throughout November and December, you can take a train on an hour-long trip to the North Pole! Enjoy hot chocolate and a yummy cookie as you ride along with many of the story’s characters such as the Train Conductor, the Dancing Waiters, and a ghostly Hobo.

At the North Pole, Santa himself will come on board to give each passenger a silver sleigh bell, the first gift of Christmas.
